The Heritage Council, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, is managing the Traditional Farm Buildings Grant Scheme.
This scheme is designed to conserve traditional farm buildings and related structures, including stone walls, gate pillars, and cobbled yards that remain in active agricultural use.

Who Can Apply?
The scheme is open to farmers in the Republic of Ireland who are:✅ Approved participants in ACRES (those awaiting confirmation can apply pending approval).✅ Participants in EIP Calls 1, 2, and 3, the Hen Harrier and Pearl Mussel Projects, and The Burren Programme, provided they were active participants as of 31st December 2022, completed the full term of their EIP contract, or fulfilled a five-year contract.✅ Approved participants of the Organic Farming Scheme.
Additionally, applicants must be the owner of the building/structure or have the owner’s permission to carry out the work.
What the Farm Buildings Grant Covers
🔹 Conservation of traditional farm outbuildings
🔹 Repair of other traditional farm structures
This year, €500,000 has been specifically allocated for related farm structures. The scheme follows the principle of minimum intervention, meaning that only conservation-focused works are eligible, while full restorations may not receive funding.

Grant Amounts
Funding ranges from €4,000 to €30,000, depending on the scale and type of work required.
